MPBAA & SPASA Proposed Merge

May 26th, 2023

On behalf of the Swimming Pool and Spa Association of Australia (SPASA) and Master Pool Builders Association Australia (MPBAA) we are thrilled to announce (after much consideration) the Boards of both organisations have signed a Heads of Agreement for the purpose of amalgamating the associations under one group to better serve members and the industry with a merged entity. The proposed amalgamation is subject to the results of a due diligence process and to the terms agreed to by both SPASA and MPBAA.

With a distinct focus on Pool Builders across Australia, MPBAA will continue to champion this segment of the industry, and SPASA (the parent organisation) will continue to enhance the profile across the broader industry, with particular emphasis on strategic elements that will add value. The combined resources will add focus to advocacy, research, training and financial stability.

MPBAA CEO Chris Samartzis says,

It is time to make the next logical step and join forces for the betterment of the industry. The positive collaboration between the groups with the Summer Expo and sitting side by side on various Australian Standards, has led to positive outcomes.”

“This is an exciting proposal and it will be a big step forward to expand the support and protection for Victorian and national members. We ask that all members take an active interest in this matter.”

SPASA CEO Lindsay McGrath says, “The amalgamation will be a positive result for all members and allow SPASA to deliver more benefits now and into the future. Amalgamating resources will add efficiencies to our services, which in turn will increase the value to our members.”

The proposal to amalgamate will be presented to MPBAA members at a General Meeting in June 2023. With its 60 plus years in existence, MPBAA encourages members to attend and hear from directors and management of both parties, ask questions and have the opportunity to vote on what is deemed a historical milestone for the industry.

With a joint commitment to deliver a professional and united organisation, membership value and industry growth will be the major benefits of the proposed amalgamation.

More information will be distributed in the coming weeks and we look forward to members embracing this exciting development.
