South Australian Assessment Improvements Code Amendment

February 5th, 2025

The South Australia state government is currently consulting on technical amendments which will impact the performance and operation of South Australia’s Planning and Design Code (SA PDC).

The Code Amendment focuses on the following areas:

  • Part 1 – Rules of Interpretation

  • Part 2 – Zones and Sub Zones

  • Part 3 – Overlays

  • Part 4 – General Development Policies

  • Part 7 – Land Use Definitions

  • Part 8 – Administrative Terms and Definitions

  • Part 9 – Referrals

Of particular note for SPASA members, is the proposal at 4.2.6 Swimming Pool Pumps – Acoustic Enclosure Policy (pages 19 – 20).

This amendment is primarily looking at improving consistency of wording, and minor grammatical issues, within the Accepted Development and General Development tables, however SPASA is taking the opportunity to advocate for the more flexible treatment of pool equipment and against the sole requirement for an ‘acoustic structure’, and distance requirements, noting that many new pool filtration systems emit very little noise are silent by design similar to other noise-generating systems (such as air conditioners, or generators) that do not have the same requirements.
